New Grizwald Map: VERY close to completion! :D

I know I've just been posting videos of my girlfriend lately, but you Grizwald fans will be happy to know that the next map is almost finished! I only need to build a few more rooms and areas and then I can start play-testing.

The next map will be a sequel. (I know I previously said it would be a prequel, but I scrapped that idea.) I tried to focus a lot more on traps/puzzles and exploration in this one because that is what people said was their favorite part about the first map. I toned down the combat a lot in comparison to the last map as I feel Minecraft's combat system, in large doses, can be tedious and boring.

Anyways, if I had to put a percentage I'd say the map is about 85%. I'll be sure to keep you guys posted. Oh, and here's a nice preview video of the "trial of power" :D :

My Girlfriend plays MineCraft...and FAILS!

I was trying to explain what type of game Minecraft was to my girlfriend and she just didn't get the concept of a "sandbox" game. Finally I just said she should try it and it might make sense. She surprisingly agreed.

Here's the catch: she doesn't play video games. Like ever. I decided to record it, with her and I commentating over it. Here are the highlights of her first 40 minutes playing. Be sure to watch til the end ;) And don't forget to subscribe to my channel!

~60% done with new map. Progress going well!

Hey guys, just wanted to give you a heads up: 3 out of 4 dungeons in my new map are completed! That puts me at about 60% of release. Why not 75% you ask? Well:

- The final dungeon is a bit longer/complex than the others.
- There is still a lot of cosmetic work to be done to the map overall
- Secret (5) and bonus (20?) chests need to be placed
- Even though I have the story planned out, I still need to write out all the notes.
- After all this, play testing.

So thats where the extra ~15-20% is going: all the logistics after the map is built. But don't worry, the story in this one will be well worth the wait ;)

And to hold you over, here's a few screens of the "Mind" dungeon:

Also stay tuned, I'm uploading a new redstone guide. It should be up very soon! Be sure to subscribe to my Youtube channel and check it out!

Single Player Commands is back! Woooo

simo_415 over on the MineCraft forums recently updated his Single Player Commands mod for 1.3. What does that mean? I'm back up and running at full steam! Progress on dungeon 3/4 is going well, and I'll maybe post a video or screen shots when I finish it up.

In the mean time, if you guys are wanting some adventure map action, I HIGHLY recommend this one:

Gourd Avenger (Adventure Map) [By Akito12345]

The puzzles and scenery are very creative and the story is excellent as well. He's already got a sequel up so you'll have plenty of game time! Give them a shot, you won't be disapointed.

Slow goings...

Since the 1.3 update, many mods broke. A lot of them have been updated (MCedit), but one in particular, "Single Player Commands", has not, which has brought my progress on the map to a temporary halt :( . I can still build certain things...but definitely not at the same speed as before, which is frustrating. I will be putting any major sections of the map on hold until "Single Player Commands" is up and running again.

Let's hope for a quick update!

PS, This is in no way directed at the mod creators. I don't expect all mods developed freely by the community to be 100% working on patch day. Thank you all for your tireless efforts to make MineCraft more enjoyable!

Part three is up (this one ends kinda abruptly though). Stay tuned for part 4, and don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel!

1.3 Update is here!

With BEDS!!!!

To update, simply launch minecraft it should do it automatically. The recipe for the bed is 3 cloth on top of 3 wood planks.

Here is a list of what else was updated, according to Notch's tumblr:

* Implemented a new lighting engine with the help of MrMessiahs (can be turned off)
* Changed the options around, added a new “Graphics options” button
* Added beds. If all players in a map sleeps in a bed during night, the game immediately skips until morning
* Added three new half-size blocks
* Added Delay/Repeater redstone dust blocks
* Added whitelisting to the server. To use, enter “whitelist ” where cmd is “on”, “off”, “add ”, “remove ”, “list” or “reload”
* New save file format, old maps need to be converted (that might take a while..)
* It’s now possible to have more than five save slots, and to rename saves
* Scrollbars in both the texture pack list, and in the map selection screen
* Replaced the Mojang splash image to reflect the new logo colors
* .. and a bunch of bug fixes and tweaks!

If I have time, I'll try and post a video of some of the new stuff. So exciting!

MineCraft update coming this Tuesday!

It's official, as confirmed from Notch's Twitter and Rock, Paper, Shotgun, the 1.3 update will be released on Tuesday, February 22nd.

It's confirmed that one of the new craft-able items added will be a bed. However this won't just be for cosmetic purposes. Ever wish it was daylight so you could make a quick run over to your garden for more wheat? Ever wish that stupid gold clock would turn just a little bit faster so you could get back to exploring? Well the bed does just that. Right-click on it and you will sleep through the night, making it instantly day time :)

There are other things that will (hopefully) be included in the update, but what I'm rooting for is this:

This Redstone repeater would make traps/music setups SO much smaller and easier to work with. Cross you fingers guys, we will find out on Tuesday!

Yogscast Finishes up their play-through

Preview of the new map.

Preview of a section of my new map:

This is part of the trap-themed dungeon. I was so happy I got these arrows traps to work properly that I had to share it. The last one was especially tedious to wire-up but it was worth it.

Here's and overhead shot of the section I run through in the video:

How I made the Zelda "secret revealed"

Hey guys, I made a short vid explaining noteblocks, inverters and how I used them to make the Zelda sound play in the Grizwald Pyramid map. I know for a fact there are better ways to wire it all up, but I wanted to keep it short and easy to understand. Hope you enjoy!

Part 2 of the Yogscast play-through is up!

Getting bored with SSP? Try out one of my favorite Mods!

It happens to all of us. We play on the same world for weeks, and eventually run out of things to build or motivation to play. Mutliplayer is no doubt a great alternative, but what can you do if your sever's down? Or you internet goes out? HOW WILL YOU COPE WITHOUT YOUR MINECRAFT FIX?!

We'll, I'd like to recommend this mod: Mo' Creatures, created by DrZhark on the MineCraft Forums. This Mod adds a whole bunch of new creatures to the game, including rabbits, birds, werewolves, sharks, and much more. There is even an entire horse taming/riding/breeding system which finally gives use to those otherwise useless saddles. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.

Some pics of Mo' Creatures:

New block type to come soon to MineCraft?

The MineCraft developers are hard at work trying to finish the game, and what's this? A new "useful" block type is under development:

Many minecraftians are speculating that this new block type will let players move their spawn point, which would be quite useful. Lets cross our fingers for another timely update!

Follow http://twitter.com/#!/jeb_ on twitter to see if he posts any further updates.

Progress on the new map!

Progress is going well. I finished a big section today and I'd say I'm around 20% with everything. Hopefully I can keep up this pace!

Here's a peek!

Guide to AND circuits

I'm by no means an expert with redstone, but I think I've learned enough to share some knowledge with you. Here's a video I made explaining one type of redstone circuit: the AND circuit.  The AND circuit can be used for door locks and trap arming/disarming functionality as well.  Enjoy!

Another Minecraft blog has entered the internet

Hooray blocks!

I'm ChronoBasher, and currently I've been developing custom "adventure" type maps for the game MineCraft. These maps focus on giving the player a goal or task to complete in an otherwise sandbox game. You can grab maps I've completed in the Download Maps section and follow my works in progress here on the home page.

I'll be posting some screens of the newest map later.  In the meantime play through "Professor Grizwald and the Curse of the Pyramid"!
